Synopsis

La Fille du Régiment (The Daughter of the Regiment) is a bel canto opera in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti. The libretto was written by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Jean-François Bayard. It was first performed on the 11th of February, 1840 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. The opera tells the story of Marie, a young woman who was adopted and raised by a regiment of French soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars.
