Harvey Lewis Sets New World Record in Big Dogs Backyard Ultra

Cincinnati Teacher Triumphs at World Championships

Outlasting 450 Miles of Grueling Endurance

Harvey Lewis, a 47-year-old Cincinnati teacher, has etched his name into the annals of running history by setting a new world record at the Big Dogs Backyard Ultra. Held in Bell, Tennessee, this extreme endurance event is renowned as the world championships of backyard ultra running.

On October 25, 2023, Lewis emerged as the last runner standing after completing an astonishing 450 miles over 72 hours. This remarkable feat outlasted an international field of elite ultramarathoners, propelling him into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Big Dogs Backyard Ultra follows a unique format where runners must complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour. Failure to finish within the hour results in elimination. Lewis's unwavering determination and relentless pace allowed him to outpace his competitors, breaking the previous world record of 432 miles set by Courtney Dauwalter in 2021.

Lewis's triumph has not only cemented his place as a legendary ultramarathoner but also showcases the incredible human spirit. His ability to push his body and mind to the absolute limits is a testament to the power of perseverance and the indomitable will to succeed.
